Lyrical concept by Ty Healy
If you’re familiar with my catalogue you will know that I never do a project without a song for the ladies. LL Cool J was a huge influence specifically the song ‘I Need Love’. Hearing a hardcore MC make a romantic love song was powerful because it shows real manhood and creative diversity. ‘She Likes Me’ is a tribute to my girlfriend and a slick display of smoothness on the mic.

The beat was recorded in a little series all titled, She likes me. This is fairly typical of how I record when I’m alone; I captured a certain emotion in a variety of contexts during one session. I believe that I sent the entire batch exclusively to Ty. They were the type of beats you hold onto until you’re certain of who’s going to sound right on them. It was originally just 1 verse and a hook, but I re built the instrumental, keeping all the core elements to the tune in tact to the original, but beefier, and arranged around Ty’s vocal take. He then said he had an idea for the second verse then we polished it off nicely for the album.
